Have you ever wanted to own an important piece of fashion history? How about a glamorous Parisian Haute Couture evening gown commissioned by one of Houston’s most famous fashion icons? Currently up for bids on auction site paddle8, is a small collection of important ball gowns, suits, and coats, from Houston resident and friend to River Oaks District, Lynn Wyatt. All proceeds from the sale are going to benefit Houston’s Rothko Chapel where Mrs. Wyatt is currently an international cultural ambassador and advisor.
In addition to the auction of these impressive garments, Mrs. Wyatt is also selling some personal art and rare books, including a signed print by Andy Warhol, some very rare “Love” prints from Yves Saint Laurent, and two original photographs from Robert Mapplethorpe. If that wasn’t enough, her movie and music celebrity friends are also getting in on the auction action; a leather jacket donated by U2 lead singer Bono, movie props from director Wes Anderson, even a bedtime story from actress Tilda Swinton, read to the lucky winner over Skype.
One of Truman Capote’s original swans, Mrs. Wyatt is known as a legendary hostess, fashion icon, arts patron, and benefactor. A member of the International Best-Dressed List Hall of Fame, her effusive taste and style is now within reach while also helping to make a difference to one of Houston’s most important independent cultural institutions.
